武夷岩茶大红袍外形呈弯条形，色泽乌褐或带墨绿、或带沙绿、或带青褐色。条索紧结、或细紧或壮结，汤色橙黄至金黄、清澈明亮。香气带花、果香型，瑞则浓长、清则幽远，或似水蜜桃香、兰花香、桂花香、乳香等等。滋味醇厚滑润甘爽，带特有的"岩韵"。


"岩韵"像岩石边长出的兰花的感觉，那香味正是在铮铮的岩石边绽开的幽幽兰花香。晚清粱章钜将武夷岩茶特点概括为"香、清、甘、活"，苏东坡亦赞它"森然可爱不可慢，骨清肉腻和且正"，清朝乾隆皇帝在评价全国各地贡茶时，题诗咏道: "就中武夷品最佳，气味清和兼骨鲠"，这些都是来形容这般"岩韵"的，后人遂将其归纳为"岩骨花香"四个字。


从功效上来说，武夷岩茶大红袍除了未继承绿茶的清热解毒功效外，延续了绿茶的提神解困、去腻消食、久服耐老的功效，同时医学临床证明，武夷岩茶还具有减肥、降压、防辐射与防癌等功能，这取决于武夷岩茶中的化学成分，据资料显示，其富含茶多酚、茶碱(生物碱)、氨基酸、微量元素及芳香物等数百种有益人体的成分。


武夷岩茶大红袍的汤水一般呈金黄或橙黄，带些微红，清澈亮丽。这一点与其他种类的荼相比，很容易辨识。茶青发酵的程度不同，还有烘焙的程度不同，泡出来的汤色也不同。一般来讲，重发酵、高火功的岩茶，颜色较深较红；轻发酵、低火功的岩茶，颜色较浅较黄。


武夷岩茶大红袍的茶汤，总的来说是甘、醇、鲜、滑。但细细品赏之下，则又有许多具体特点。甘有两种，一是人口即甘，只要是好岩茶，入口就有一种甜滋滋，凉沁沁的味道。但是不像普洱的甘那样，有点腻感。岩荼的回甘是发散型的，直接扩充你的喉咙，清凉开阔，你甚至觉得那不是回甘，但确实是喝了岩茶以后舌齿清甘，喉咙开阔，很舒服的一种感觉。


Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) Oolong Tea


Big Red Robe (Da Hong Pao) is one of the most famous and exclusive teas in the world. It is designated both a "Chinese Famous Tea" and a "The Four Great Bushes" tea.


Da Hong Pao came from wild tea plants that were naturally growing on the cliffs of Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province, China. Wuyi Mountain has unique geographical and climate conditions that give Big Red Robe tea its unique characteristics. There is a large difference in temperatures between daytime and nighttime and the daylight hours are short and also have clear water springs that feed the tea bushes.


Da Hong Pao also known as the Emperor of Tea, is a semi-fermented oolong tea. Big Red Robe is considered the strongest full-bodied Oolong comparable to a top "espresso" in the coffee world.


Da Hong Pao yields a golden yellow liquid that produces a pleasant long lasting aftertaste. It is a long leaf oolong tea with a sweet aroma, a unique woodsy character and fruity muscatel tones. It has a robust taste, but generally no bitterness. Multiple infusions of this tea will keep offering a uniquely multi-dimensional oolong flavour along with a silky-smooth aftertaste.This tea is also renowned for its nourishing medicinal properties.


Brewing Instructions


1. Fill both the teapot and the cup about halfway with hot water to preheat them. Tilt them a bit so that the water creeps up the side and then rotate them so the insides get wet all the way around. Then pour the water out.

2. Put 2 teaspoons (every 236ml) of tea leaves into the teapot.

3. Fill the teapot with 90-95ºC water.

4. Place the lid on the teapot and let the tea steep for 1 minute.

5. Pour the tea into the teacups and enjoy your tea!

6. You can get 4-6 infusions out of most varieties. Increase the steeping time 30 seconds to 1 minute for each infusion.
