This book addresses the level of heavy metals accumulation in Tilapia sp.exposed to municipal solid waste landfill leachate and the health risk associated through consumption. It highlights the exposure of waste leachate to fish and how it leaves a significant impact on human. The uncontrolled production and discharge of untreated landfill leachate pose environmental pollution. Leachate from waste contains hazardous contaminants such as heavy metal that are passed into the food chain through fish bioaccumulation and end up in human bodies. Tilapia is a type of fish that can adapt to a wide range of pollutants in various water conditions and are resistant to disease. It has high market demand for its edible nature and it is also vulnerable to leachate contamination. Based on the findings of this research, the risk of heavy metals accumulation in fish highly occurred in the gills followed by the muscle (the edible part that we eat). A probable health risk exists from heavy metals exposure of municipal waste landfill leachate through fish consumption.
