泡参能补益元气；其药性偏凉，兼能清火养阴生津。

适用于热病或大汗、大泻、大失血，耗伤元气及阴津所致神疲乏力，气短息促，自汗热粘，心烦口渴，尿短赤涩，大便干结，舌燥，脉细数无力等证。常与麦冬、五味子等养阴生津，敛汗之品同用。

泡渗亦能补肺气，兼能养肺阴、清肺火，适用于火热耗伤肺脏气阴所致短气喘促，咳嗽痰少，或痰中带血等症。可与养阴润肺的玉竹、麦冬，清热化痰止咳之川贝母等品同用。 此外，它还能补心气，益脾气，并兼能养心阴，滋脾阴。治疗气阴两虚之心悸心痛，失眠多梦。可与补心气之甘草，养心阴、清心热之麦冬、生地等品同用。治疗脾气阴两虚之纳呆食滞，口渴思饮。可与健脾消食之太子参、山药、神曲、谷芽等品同用。肾阴不足之证亦可选用
