It’s Real Soap!

For a cleanser to be considered soap, it has to be made of fats and oils, or fatty acids. Non-soap cleansers, also called synthetic detergents, or syndets for short, consist either partially or entirely of synthetic ingredients instead. Syndet bars cannot be called soap and therefore you can spot them easily as they are called beauty bars, cleansing bars or similar.

My handmade soap is firstly made with love as I really care about each and every single batch that I create. My ingredients include olive oil which is gentle and kind to the skin blended with shea butter, castor oil and coconut oil to create a luxurious and creamy bar with a lovely lather.

Most commercially produced soap is not soap at all but chemical detergents, or a mixture of detergents and soap. And many, if not all, contain sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) which is a known skin irritant and it may even cause dermatitis. If you have sensitive skin then this is an ingredient that you should definitely avoid.

Glycerine

_x000D_ _x000D_

A bi-product of creating soap is glycerine which is naturally moisturising. The glycerine is usually removed by commercial soap producers and sold to the cosmetics industry. However, the glycerine is retained in my handmade soap as it is kind to skin and helps to keep it moisturised.

Traditional Process

This is a traditional technique of soap making where the oils and butters are gently heated just enough to melt them and start the saponification process. Other techniques involve higher temperatures to speed up the saponification process but keeping the temperatures low retains the properties of the oils and butters.

Your skin will benefit from using soap that is created with natural oils and butters instead of one made with a concoction of synthetic chemicals and detergents. After using handmade soap your skin should feel soft and supple, not dry and tight as is often the case after using commercial soaps.

Sea cucumber contains lots of fatty acids that are great for wound healing — fatty acids such as palmitic, oleic, and stearic, and many more.–plus vitamins A, B’s and calcium and iron.
