Penggunaannya dalam pertanian:


Cuka kayu atau asid piroligneus adalah hasil sampingan berbentuk cecair yang terhasil daripada proses pembuatan arang, iaitu pembakaran kayu tanpa udara (proses pirolisis). Melalui proses ini arang (biochar), tar, cuka kayu, dan pelbagai produk gas terhasil seperti wap air, metana, hydrogen, karbon dioksida, karbon monoksida dan lain lain.


Cuka ini telah digunakan dalam bidang pertanian sejak sekian lama kerana manfaat yang didapati daripadanya. Sebagai contoh, kajian mendapati bahan ini dapat meningkatkan hasil pertanian dalam pelbagai species tanaman dengan cara menggalakkan dan meningkatkan percambahan benih, tumbesaran pokok, berat buah dan kualiti buah dan sayur.


Bukan sahaja dapat membantu pertumbuhan pokok, cuka kayu juga bertindak melawan dan menghalang patogen pokok seperti kulat dan bakteria. Kajian juga mendapati cuka kayu dapat bertindak sebagai baja organik dan dapat menyuburkan tanah dengan meningkatkan aktiviti microbial tanah dan struktur fizikal tanah.


Di Jepun, cuka ini diterima pakai secara meluas oleh pekebun sayur sebagai bahan kimia tani organik kerana kesan positifnya terhadap pokok. Selain itu ekstrak cuka ini juga digunakan dalam industri makanan sebagai penambah rasa dan agen penstabil. Hari ini cuka ini atau asid piroligneus dikenali kerana sifat organiknya dan berpotensi sebagai pengganti baja dan racun sintetik.

Wood vinegar or pyroligneus acid is a liquid byproduct resulting from the process of making charcoal, which is the burning of wood without air (pyrolysis process). Through this process charcoal (biochar), tar, wood vinegar, and various gaseous products are produced such as water vapor, methane, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and others.


This vinegar has been used in agriculture for a long time because of the benefits derived from it. For example, studies have found that this material can increase agricultural yields in various crop species by encouraging and improving seed germination, tree growth, fruit weight and fruit and vegetable quality.


Not only can it help tree growth, wood vinegar also acts against and inhibits tree pathogens such as fungi and bacteria. The study also found that wood vinegar can act as an organic fertilizer and can fertilize the soil by increasing the microbial activity of the soil and the physical structure of the soil.


In Japan, this vinegar is widely adopted by vegetable growers as an organic farming chemical because of its positive effects on trees. In addition, this vinegar extract is also used in the food industry as a flavor enhancer and stabilizing agent. Today this vinegar or pyroligneus acid is known for its organic properties and potential as a substitute for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
