Technique: Seasoning a Brand New Cast Iron Skillet 1. Pre-heat oven to 325° 2. Wash skillet with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly. 3. Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil, or vegetable shortening with a paper towel on all surfaces, inside and out. 4. Place in oven on center rack, upside down. Place a baking sheet or a sheet of foil on the rack beneath to catch drippings. 5. Bake for an hour, then turn off heat, open door, and allow to cool inside oven before removing. 6. Skillet is now ready to use.

My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal? Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, this Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.

Q : How is pre-seasoned cookware seasoned? A : All of pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.

Q : Does this cast iron pan weight more than other similar sized pans? A : Yes, this cast iron pan is heavier than other similar sized cast iron pans due to the additional material used to make the impressions.

P/S : Keep or pack the Pan with a plastic bag or cling film wrapping to keep it in proper storage for next using. (apply a thin layer of cooking oil after you wash and wipe it throughly)
