This Banana Boat Ultra Defense sunscreen fortunately does not contain the same sensitizing preservative system as a few of their other products, and that’s good news. It also contains the maximum amount of avobenzone for excellent UVA protection—but SPF 80? It is highly doubtful that anyone’s skin sees that much daylight. Even someone whose skin turns pink in 10 minutes would be protected for 800 minutes (over 13 hours), which is overkill to say the least. There’s also an issue with the amount of active ingredients required to claim SPF 80—that high a concentration poses a risk of irritating skin—and over 30% of the ingredients in this sunscreen are actives, so a sensitized reaction is much more likely.
