Free Digital Broadcast For You

The DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) Project is spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) and supervised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). It is a government initiative to provide the public with the best TV and radio broadcasting services. This upgrade will provide the nation with sharper transmissions at zero monthly fees.

Standard TV Set

An old TV set can still be used as long as it has an AV/HDMI input that can be connected to the MYTV decoder via an AV/HDMI cable.

IDTV

A new TV set with the DTTV label approved by SIRIM. It comes with a built-in digital tuner and doesn't require a MYTV decoder to receive myFreeview services. It is also known as an IDTV (Integrated Digital Television). IDTV is available for sale in the market.

MYTV Decoder

Also known as a DVB-T2 receiver and is required to receive myFreeview digital broadcast signals. The MYTV decoder is available in electronics stores nationwide from November 2016 onwards.

UHF Aerial

The UHF aerial needs to be installed and connected to the decoder's or IDTV's aerial terminal. There are two types of aerials that can receive digital broadcast:

a. Indoor Aerial

The indoor aerial can receive signals within a 25km radius from a nearby broadcasting station. However, some areas within that range may not receive a signal if there are physical obstructions such as tall buildings or hills.

b. Outdoor Aerial

Outdoor aerials are the best choice as they can fully receive broadcast signals when they are facing the broadcasting station. ‘Booster’ devices are not necessary for the aerial as they not only do nothing to help, but rather, they disrupt the reception of myFreeview services.

Coverage

Digital terrestrial transmission services are now broadcasted nationwide through over 13 transmission towers covering around 80% of the Malaysian population. There will be up to 60 main transmission towers installed by 2017, covering up to 98% of Malaysia's population. Find out if your area is under DTT coverage in the following tables
