Gen 1 wheel bearings can be found in driven front and rear wheels. They may also be in integral drum designs on the non-driven wheels of smaller cars. (Always refer to and follow vehicle and product specifications.)

Characteristics
• Cartridge style wheel bearings
• May either be a ball or tapered design
• Are double row angular contact bearings
• Most have a split inner ring
• Presence of split inner ring indicates that when hand rotated, each half of the bearing has the ability to rotate independently of the other
• Generally greased and sealed for life
INSTALLATION TIPS
• Certain Gen 1 wheel bearings may include a wheel speed sensor magnetic impulse ring
• The impulse ring is built into the seal on one side of the bearing
• Gen 1 wheel bearings with an impulse ring can only be installed in one direction
• The encoder ring must be placed next to the wheel speed sensor in order for Anti-Lock Braking System, Traction Control System and Stability Control System to function
