Sidr honey
It is a well-known fact that honey is one of the most fundamental and nutritious substances that every individual needs in order to have a healthy body, yet rarely are people aware of its value.

Factually, honey is considered a sweet food that comes from bees using nectar drawn from flowers with sweet aroma.

Honey is collected from wild bee colonies, or from hives of domesticated bees, in a practice known as beekeeping or apiculture. Generally, there are various kinds of honey, but Sidr is the most preferable one.

What is Sidr honey?
Sider honey is characterized by a golden light color. While fresh and newly produced, it reminds you of the aroma of Sidr tree.

It is produced by bees who only derive their nectar from Sider trees, the oldest trees which have been used as a natural medicine for centuries and are considered sacred in some religions.

These glorious trees possess high-energy value.

Their seeds are rich in protein and their leaves are full of magnesium, iron and calcium.

Fortunately, they are found in different places around the world ,such as Sidr Tree(Arab), Bari Tree(India), Anuub Tree( Lebanon/ Iran),Hunnap Tree (Turkey), Henup Tree (Bulgaria)and Zufzuuf Tree (Morocco).

The most famous areas in Yemen for producing Sider honey are Dowan in Hadramout and Bahyan in Shabwa.

In all these areas, honey bees feed themselves exclusively on the nectar from Sider trees.

Like other types of honey, Sider honey needs good care through all the stages starting from production to packaging, testing of samples and storage.

Honey is sensitive. Any mistake while processing might turn it into harmful material instead of healthy one.

Therefore, Yemeni beekeepers are strict in ensuring its purity.

Their method of beekeeping has always been a traditional one. Chemicals and drugs are banned and machines are outlawed. Everything is done by using their hands, a little smoke( from dried camels’ skins) and knives. The honey is then poured, unheated and raw, into containers.
