Advantages of Alcohol Thermometers
- It is suitable to measure low temperatures because of its freezing point is low.
- It is less dangerous or harzadous than mercury thermometer so it is more environmental friendly
- The red colour of alcohol is easier for reading

Disadvantages of Alcohol Thermometers
- alcohol thermometer only works in temperature < 100°C
- It is less durable because alcohol evaporates faster than mercury.

Advantages of Mercury Thermometers
- It is a good conductor of heat and hence, can measure wide temperature range
- It has a fast response time
- mercury thermometer generally more accurate
- mercury thermometer can last longer as does not evaporate easily like alcohol thermometer

Disadvantages of Mercury Thermometers
- It has low thermal co-efficient and cannot measure low temperature
- mercury thermometer is harder for reading as compare to alcohol thermometer due to the colour
- mercury is dangerous and hazardous if there is accident of breaking so it is not so environmental friendly
