Tranexamic acid is a fibrinolytic amino acid derived from lysine. 2% tranexamic acid exerts effects on pigmentation and uneven skin tone via its inhibitory power on UV-induced plasminogen activator. This activator converts plasminogen to plasmin, which speeds up tyrosinase activity that generates dark pigments.
