Updated from the acclaimed TrizCHLOR shampoo, it’s called TrizCHLOR 4 as it now comes with 4% chlorhexidine, the highest you’ll find.

Chlorhexidine has been a fixture in medicated pet shampoo since a 2011 in-vitro study that confirmed its unique antibacterial properties to which germs would not develop a tolerance. At 3% or higher, chlorhexidine was also found to be an effective antifungal. 4% chlorhexidine was the highest concentration used in the study and that’s exactly what you get with TrizCHLOR 4.

More than that, it is further potentiated by Dechra’s patented TrizEDTA compound.

How does TrizEDTA (triz) affect the chlorhexidine (CHLOR) component?
A combo of 2 chemicals, TrizEDTA has been studied extensively for its antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects. It’s shown to weaken the cell walls of microbes, making it easy for CHLOR to penetrate and neutralize. It also breaks up biofilms of bacteria and fungi and makes them easier to destroy and less harmful to your pet. (Biofilms are colonies of microbes that stick together, essentially protecting each other and amplifying their damage.)
As a result, TrizCHLOR 4 works as if it has more than 4% CHLOR. You will agree that TrizCHLOR 4 is a very potent shampoo the first time you use it on your pet.

Is TrizCHLOR 4 better for bacterial infections than fungal?
Not necessarily. Fungal infections often cause secondary bacterial infections. If your pet’s skin is raw, full of sores, swollen, or generally looks terrible, he/she likely developed pyoderma or other bacterial infections on top of the existing. Treat the bacterial infection with TrizCHLOR 4 and your pet’s skin will instantly look better and the primary fungal infection will be easier to fix too.
Also, some pets respond so well to CHLOR that TrizCHLOR 4 would work better than anything else. If nothing’s worked for your pet’s skin infection thus far, you should definitely try TrizCHLOR 4.

How does it compare to Mal-A-Ket and MiconaHEX+Triz in the same series?
We use MLK for severe fungal infections – twice a week for 2 months. MHT is a unique shampoo that’s both powerful and moisturizing.
For all other cases, the antibiofilm TrizCHLOR 4 could be the best Dechra shampoo to start with. You may have to try a few to find one that works best for your pet. The key is to have at your disposal a range of high quality products and we can help point you in the right direction.
