Mastering English Reading Skills and Strategies- A Compulsory Guide is designed to equip the readers with reading skills and strategies besides preparing them to read with a purpose and to interact with the text while they read.

This exposure would enable the readers to deal with books, documents, journal articles, reading comprehension questions in examinations at the school level, tertiary level as well as in their personal and professional lives.

How to use this module

The 12 units presented in this module move from the chapter on An Introduction to Reading to the chapters on reading strategies. Chapter 1 exposes readers to tips on how to become a good reader, skills required for critical reading and types of reading comprehension questions.

This is followed by Chapters 2 till 12 that present notes and exercises on reading strategies such as scanning to skimming, identifying main ideas and implied main ideas, relevant or irrelevant information, facts and opinions, making inferences, drawing conclusions, interpreting graphic illustrations and obtaining meanings of words from contextual clues/vocabulary questions.
