Pada tahun 1901, RJ Wilkinson seorang tokoh pengkaji Jawi berbangsa Inggeris telah menerbitkan sebuah qamus Jawi-Inggeris yang berwibawa yang dinamakan A Malay English Dictionary. Qamusnya menghimpunkan lebih 2000 patah perkataan Jawi dan diberikan ma‘na dalam bahasa Inggeris serta sumber-sumber perkataan tersebut. Akademi Jawi Malaysia telah menerbitkan semula qamus ini pada tahun 2017.

Mengandungi:
• Pengenalan Pengarang
• Pengenalan tentang keistimewaan dan ṣifat Bahasa Melayu
• Penta‘rifan istilah berdasarkan rujukan berwibawa dari manuskrip Melayu
• Menyenaraikan pelbagai bacaan bagi sesuatu ejaan Jāwī (mithalnya تڠكل terdapat 7 cara bacaan)
• Indeks untuk semua perkataan
• Senarai perkataan Melayu berkaitan perubatan dan haiwan
Sebuah qāmūs Jāwī yang patut dimiliki oleh semua pelajar, pengkaji dan peminat persuratan Jawi

• English definition supplied with quotations from various valuable Malay manuscripts

Preface:
The requirements of a student of Malay vary with the object with which he is learning the language; indeed, one might also say that the language to be acquired similarly varies. No single book can meet the needs of every learner. To avoid misunderstanding, therefor, I wish to clearly set out the limitations of this work. It confines itself to the Malay of literature and to the colloquial of the two principal dialects spoken in the Straits Settlements. It is not written for the beginner, nor it is encyclopedic enough for the specialist. It does not deal exhaustively with any single branch of Malay research, but it will, I hope, be found useful in advanced studies of a general character, in he interpretation of documents, and in giving more precision generally to translations in Courts Law.
