DESCRIPTION:
Formalin is a generic term which describes a solution of 37% Formaldehyde gas dissolved in water. Solutions of Formalin for use on Fish, should contain 10-15% Methanol, which inhibits formation of para-formaldehyde.

* A good electrophile, participating in electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions with aromatic compounds.
* A common precursor to more complex compounds and materials, as a range of resins, plastics, dye agent.
* The textile industry uses formaldehyde-based resins as finishers to make fabrics crease-resistant .
* An aqueous solution of formaldehyde can be useful as a disinfectant as it kills most bacteria and fungi.
* Formaldehyde is used to inactivate bacterial products for toxoid vaccines
* Used as tissue fixative and embalming agent.

Formaldehyde is used as a tissue preservative in medical laboratories and as an embalming fluid in mortuaries. It is also used as a preservative in some foods and as an antibacterial ingredient in cosmetics, household antiseptics, medicines, dishwashing liquids, fabric softeners, carpet cleaners, lacquers, and wood products. It is used as a preservative in some paints, paper coatings, and cosmetics; in the permanent press coating on fabrics; in carpets; and in some foam insulation materials.
