Drug therapy is by far the commonest form of treatment in management of patients. While drugs produce beneficial effects if used appropriately, they can also produce many undesideable effects which may even be harmful to the recipients. To achieve the most benefits and cause the least harm from drug therapy, the principles of Rational Prescribing must be applied when prescribing drugs. This is based on considerations of the patient’s condition, the objectives of threatment, and the choice of drugs according to their capability and limitation. In turn, this is based on adequate knowledge of diseases as well as drugs to be employed. This book deals with drugs. It describes the possible therapeutic and untoward effects that can be produced by drugs; the mechanisms by which drugs may produce them; and what drugs go through during their sojourn in the host, the process which constitutes Drug Pharmacokinetics. The book also demonstrates how knowledge of drug may be employed in clinical scenarios, by illustrating a few examples of management og common diseases. Presumably, this book would serve as an aid to better therapeutic outcomes of drug therapy in clinic practice.
