The human mind, thoughts and behaviour is an “area” that has yet to be fully explored by scientists due to the complexity and its research process that is complicated. The study of the human mind is known as psychology; the study of mind, the way it works and how the process of the (internal) mind affects someone’s behaviour or personality (external).

However, do you know that studies, debates and discussions about it have begun in ancient times? Some of the earliest records of human psychology are in the year 387 BC. At that time, the famous philosopher Plato proposed his view by saying that the brain is the location where the process of mind works, whereas in 335 BC, Aristotle claimed that the process took place in the heart.

According to The Oxford Handbook of the History of Psychology: Global Perspectives, Islamic scientists also give great contributions to the study of the human mind. For example, Ibn Sina investigates and is capable of treating seizures, dreams, and memory weakness problems. In addition, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the first hospital to start treating psychiatric problems was founded by Muslim doctors in the Middle Ages.
