iCare HIV test kit is a diagnostic tool to detect the presence of HIV type 1 and type 2 virus.

HIV Type 1 is the most common type of HIV and occurs all over the world. According to the HIV awareness charity Avert, around 95 percent of people living with HIV have HIV-1.

HIV type 2 is mainly present in West Africa, but it is slowly starting to appear in other regions, including the United States, Europe, and India. Though HIV-1 and HIV-2 are both retroviruses that can have similar effects on the human body.

 

Why and who should test for HIV?

HIV is a virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). Anyone can be at risk. Most infected people do not know their HIV status as they look and feel well. Most common routes of infection are:

Unprotected sexual contacts with infected person;

Repeated use of needles in connection with drugs;

Intravenous drugs users;

Health care workers who take blood samples

 

What is iCare One Step HIV 1 & 2 Rapid test Kit used for?

iCare test kit will give the user a private, sensible, quick and accurate rapid test results in 15 minutes to ascertain if the user infected with HIV virus. It is an aid only to identify infected individuals.

 

When should I test?

If you have reason to suspect a possible infection of yourself or your sexual partner (s), it is wise to take a test. Although most people will manifest antibody levels after 30 days, significant percentages do not show these antibodies until about 90 days. We recommend you do 2 test, after 30 days and after 90 days from the day of potential exposure.

 

When HIV virus attack the body, the immune system produces antibodies to fight off the harmful foreign substance. This test kit is sensitive to HIV antibodies.

One step HIV test cassette adopts double antigen sandwich method. When the specimen is added into the test device, the specimen is absorbed into the device by capillary action, mixes with the antigen-dye conjugate, and flows across the pre-coated membrane.

When the HIV antibody levels are at or above the detection limit of the test, HIV antibodies in the specimen bind to the antigen-dye conjugate and are captured by antigen immobilized in the test region (T) of the device. Produces a coloured test band and indicates a positive result.

When the HIV antibody levels are zero or below the detection limit of the test, there is not a visible coloured band in the test region (T) of the device. This indicates a negative result. To serve as a procedure control, a coloured line will appear at the control region (C), if the test has been performed properly.

iCare test kits are 100% safe to use. The diluent does not contain poisonous or toxic chemicals and made of NaCl, K2HPO4, KH2PO4. The test strips were coated with recombinant antigen and it is in-active, non-virus, non-infectious. It will not trigger your body's immune system.

Use within 10 minutes after opening the test kit pack as all the parts are sterilised. Clean your finger with alcohol swab before prick your finger.

When performing the test, the steps involved must be followed closely. Please add two drops of blood followed by one to two drops of diluent liquid immediately before the blood get clot into the test well.

It is imperative that a positive HIV test result be followed by a Western Blot or PCR test performed to confirm the result. This is the 3rd Generation test kit that detect antibodies produced by human body against the virus.
